HANGZHOU, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The shooting competition of the Hangzhou Asian Games concluded on Sunday with China taking three of the remaining four trap golds.
China staged a world-class performance in the women's trap team event, as Zhang Xinqiu, Wu Cuicui and Li Qingnian totaled 357 hits to break the previous world record of 354. Zhang stayed on top form in the individual final, hitting 47 targets out of 50 to defend her title.
"We are a very united team," said the 29-year-old. "From coaches to staff, they took care of us the whole time, and we couldn't have made it without them."
China's male trap shooters took the bronze in the team event, before Qi Ying rallied to take gold in the individual event.
China's shooting team garnered 16 golds from 33 events. Besides the women's trap team event, 18-year-old prodigy Sheng Lihao set a world record in the men's 10 air rifle final with 253.3 points, and China's shooters also raised the men's 25m rapid fire pistol team world record to 1,765 points.
China's shotgun shooters secured their best results ever at the Asian Games with five golds, three silvers and two bronze medals. Teenager Jiang Yiting snatched the women's skeet individual gold, and has been hailed as a rising star in the event after Olympic medalists Zhang Shan, Wei Ning and Wei Meng.
India, who has performed well in international shooting competitions in recent years, placed second with seven golds, nine silvers and six bronzes. In Hangzhou, Indian shooters broke three world records, and won golds in several Olympic events including the women's 10m air pistol and women's 50m rifle three positions.
The Hangzhou Asian Games also bore witness to the continued stories of some senior shooters. 60-year-old Abdullah Al Rashidi of Kuwait claimed gold in the men's skeet individual event with a prefect 60 hits, equaling the current world record. He paired up with Eman Al Shamaa to bag a silver medal in the skeet mixed team event, bringing his total Asian Games medal outlay to ten.
52-year-old Nasser Al-Attiya of Qatar took a silver and a bronze in the men's skeet. The five-time Dakar Rally champion did not undertake any pre-event training before arriving at the competition site, and has set his sights on next year's Paris Olympics.
Kazakhstan finished third in the medal standings with three golds. South Korea and Indonesia finished with two golds apiece, while DPR Korea, Kuwait and Vietnam had one gold each.
