ACHHAM, Nepal - Mangalsen, Achham's district headquarters, remained tense on Monday after locals protested the death of 15-year-old Binod Shahi of Panchadewal Municipality.
According to Inspector Kailash Bista, information officer at the District Police Office, police fired 12 tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
"Twelve police officers, including two female officers, were seriously injured in a clash between police and protesting locals," Bista said.
According to police, protesters threw stones at the public prosecutor's office.
Shahi, a tenth-grade student at a nearby school, went missing on May 31. On June 4, he was discovered dead near Panchdewal Campus.
"We're still looking into it." Ambika Chalaune, Mayor of Panchdewal Municipality, has contacted us," Achham District Police Office Chief DSP Dangi said.
Chalaune, the newly elected mayor, is one of the accused in this case.
On June 9, Shahi's family and relatives filed an FIR against 13 people, including the Chalaune. Five people have already been arrested in connection with the investigation.
