KATHMANDU, Nepal - The Airlines Operators Association Nepal, an umbrella organization for private airlines, threatened to halt all services beginning Wednesday if the aviation regulator did not reverse its decision of Sunday.

According to the decision, fixed-wing operators and helicopter companies must relocate more than 60% of their aircraft to other airports as their operating base.

According to the association, the decision was made in haste, and the regulator did not consult them.

The group has issued a five-point demand. The demand also includes the cancellation of the passenger service charge, which the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had more than doubled.

In addition, the regulator has imposed a mandatory rule requiring helicopter companies to operate VIP flights with two pilots.

"We would like to inform you that if our demands are not met, regular flights, including emergency rescue operations conducted by helicopters, will be postponed beginning Wednesday," the association said in a statement.

The association's five-point demand also includes the construction of long-term helipads, helicopter hangars, and other physical infrastructure.

The association also demanded that Nepal be immediately removed from the European Commission's air safety list.

According to the association, the entire tourism sector has been impacted since Nepali airlines were added to the European Commission's air safety list in December 2013.
