KATHMANDU, Nepal - The District Administration Authorities of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have reinstated the Odd/Even regulation for traffic flow, which will take effect at midnight on Friday.
According to the scheme, vehicles with odd registration numbers will run on odd days (Nepali calendar date), while vehicles with even registration numbers would operate on even days. Both public and private vehicles are subject to the rule.
On the other hand, emergency vehicles are exempt from the aforementioned rule.
Authorities have justified the decision by citing the ever-increasing number of single-day Covid-19 cases in Kathmandu Valley, which has been setting new records regarding newly reported infections in recent days.
Similarly, according to the order issued by officials on Thursday, public transportation would be prohibited from carrying passengers above its capacity, and masks and sanitizers will be required for passengers.
