FARIDPUR, Bangladesh - As many as ten buildings, including a temple, have tumbled by roughly 20 feet on the banks of the Kumar River in Faridpur's Nagarkanda Upazila, an incident triggered by accidental river dredging recently, according to locals.

According to Ziaur Rahman, a local municipality member, at least another 100 buildings, including houses, are in danger of collapsing.

He claimed that cracks developed in the region on Monday morning, and the buildings collapsed late at night.

The cracks are currently six feet deep. The Nagarkanda Government MN Academy building, police station, center Kaali Temple, and a portion of the municipality market area are all in danger of collapsing.

According to the area's population, most of whom are low-income Hindus, Bengal Group conducted a river dredging project on the river's banks under Bangladesh Navy.

They claimed that some of the company's employees worked with locals to dredge a section of the river to sell sand during the project unlawfully.

"This happened because they did not follow the laws and did this to sell sand," stated Nagarkanda Municipality Mayor Nimai Chandra. The Kumar River's banks had never eroded before."

He went on to say that those engaged in the case should be held accountable.
