DHAKA, Bangladesh - Shakhawat Ali Nobel, the husband of film star Raima Islam Shimu, and his buddy Farhad have been arrested for her death.
They were apprehended in Dhaka's Kalabagan, and authorities discovered some evidence of the murder, according to Dhaka District Police Superintendent Maruf Hossain Sarder.
Shimu's mutilated body was discovered in gunny sacks near Hazratpur Bridge in Keraniganj's Aliyapur district on Monday after neighbors reported the incident to authorities.
According to Police, her brother Shahidul Islam recognized the body at the Mitford Hospital mortuary on Monday.
On Sunday morning, the actress left her house, saying she was heading to a film shoot in Mawa, and she never returned.
According to Shimu's brother, Shahidul Islam Khokon, six people have been named in the murder investigation. Nobel and Farhad have been listed as the prime suspects. Their driver was also named in the case, and investigators discovered blood in the car's back seat.
Khokon was escorted to the police station by actor Zayed Khan. According to many film industry insiders, Shimu was at odds with Zayed Khan about membership in the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association.
On the other hand, Khan dismissed the charge, claiming that he had not communicated to Shimu in the last two years, even over the phone. All of this was a plot against him, he claimed.
Shimu was an associate member of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association. She also acted in TV dramas and produced as well.
