GAZIPUR, Bangladesh - A former Dhaka University professor who went missing two days ago was discovered dead in a forest near her residence in Dakkhin Panishail, Gazipur's Kashimpur.
According to Mahbub-E-Khoda, chief of Kashimpur Police Station, Prof. Sayeda Khaleque, 70, was strangled.
On Friday morning, police officers retrieved her body from the jungle, just a few hundred meters from her leased home.
Anwar Hossain, a construction worker, was arrested as a suspect in Sayeda's death.
Anwar was working on a construction site where Sayeda was constructing her home in a housing project.
Sayeda lived alone in a rented flat on the first floor of a new building.
"We are investigating who else was involved with the incident," said the police officer.
Sayeda has a son in Dhaka's Motijheel neighborhood, a daughter in Uttara, and two other daughters in Australia.
According to Mahbub, Prof Sayeda's daughter, who lives in Dhaka, came to the police station on Thursday to alert officers that her mother had gone missing.
