KATHMANDU, Nepal - Part-time professors at Tribhuvan University have initiated new protests, asking that the university follow through on a previous agreement.
The university had agreed to hire them on a contract basis around five months ago. On the other hand, teachers have begun a new round of protests, claiming that the country's largest academic institution has failed to honor the commitment.
According to Gokul Limbu, the chairperson of the central struggle committee for part-time teachers, the teachers have been organizing sit-ins at the university. They have also submitted a memorandum to university administrators to implement the agreement.
"If the problem is not solved in the next two days, we will make sterned protest programs," Limbu said.
According to the agitators, 580 lecturers who have been working for the past three years have not been offered service contracts.
