TOKYO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower on Tuesday, tracking major losses on Wall Street overnight as novel coronavirus cases in some European countries and the United States continued to surge.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 158.70 points, or 0.68 percent, from Monday to 23,335.64.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.10 points, or 0.87 percent, at 1,604.88.
Mining, iron and steel and air transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
